πŸ… Heritage Certificate of Recognition

Celebrating the people and organisations who conserve, enhance and champion the heritage of Royal Leamington Spa.

The Leamington Society’s Heritage Certificate of Recognition celebrates the individuals, businesses, organisations and volunteers whose efforts help conserve, enhance and champion the unique heritage of Royal Leamington Spa.

Every year, people across our town quietly make a lasting difference. They restore historic buildings, improve traditional shopfronts, care for parks and public spaces, protect important views, research local history, or simply take great pride in preserving the character of Leamington for future generations.

Many of these contributions go unnoticed.

Our Heritage Certificate of Recognition exists to ensure they don’t.

Unlike our biennial Leamington Society Awards, Certificates of Recognition may be presented throughout the year whenever an outstanding contribution deserves to be celebrated.

⭐ What contributions can be recognised?

We welcome nominations recognising projects or individuals that have made a positive contribution to the heritage and character of Royal Leamington Spa.

Examples include:

πŸ›οΈ Restoration or sensitive repair of historic buildings.

πŸͺš High-quality traditional craftsmanship.

πŸͺ Improvements to shopfronts and business premises that enhance the Conservation Area.

🌳 Care and conservation of parks, gardens and historic landscapes.

πŸš‚ Protection or enhancement of important historic views and townscapes.

πŸ“– Research, education or interpretation that increases understanding of Leamington’s history.

🀝 Community volunteering and heritage projects.

🌸 Improvements that make our town a more attractive and enjoyable place for everyone.

Large or small, every nomination is considered on its own merits.

πŸ›οΈ Heritage is more than listed buildings

Heritage is not simply about protecting individual listed buildings.

Royal Leamington Spa’s special character comes from the relationship between its buildings, streets, parks, public spaces and historic views. These all contribute to the setting of our heritage assets and help tell the story of how our town developed.

Sometimes a relatively modest improvement can have a significant positive impact on the appearance and appreciation of our historic environment.

The Society is therefore pleased to recognise contributions that conserve and enhance the wider character of our town.

πŸ™‹Who can nominate?

Anyone is welcome to submit a nomination.

You do not need to be a member of The Leamington Society.

We welcome nominations from residents, businesses, schools, community organisations and visitors who have seen someone make an outstanding contribution to our town’s heritage.

πŸ“‹ How are nominations assessed?

Nominations are considered by the Committee of The Leamington Society.

Certificates are awarded only where the Committee considers that an individual, business or organisation has made an exceptional contribution to conserving, enhancing or celebrating the heritage of Royal Leamington Spa.

As the Certificate recognises outstanding achievement, not every nomination will necessarily receive an award.

βœ‰οΈ Nominate someone

Do you know someone who deserves recognition?

Perhaps they’ve restored a historic property, improved a traditional shopfront, cared for a cherished green space, led a community heritage project, or simply gone the extra mile to preserve the character of Royal Leamington Spa.

Please send us:

πŸ‘€ The name of the individual, business or organisation.

πŸ“ A short description of their contribution.

πŸ“· Photographs or supporting information (if available).

πŸ… The Motoring Centre

Our first Heritage Certificate of Recognition was presented to Matt Close of The Motoring Centre.

The award recognised the family’s commitment to improving an important gateway into Royal Leamington Spa through the removal of large advertising hoardings, revealing historic views of the railway arches and the Grade II listed All Saints’ Church. This enhancement demonstrates how thoughtful changes can improve the setting of heritage assets and strengthen the character of the town.

πŸ… Trattoria

Recognised for extensive sympathetic refurbishment of a Listed Building frontage in the town centre, bringing a disused shop back into life.
