The 2108 AGM of the Leamington Society took place in Christchurch Hall on Thursday 10th April. This was a very successful event with good attendance and the involvement of several new members.

The formal business before the interval ended with the meeting approving proposals to offer Life Membership to Robin and Shirley Adams, in recognition of all that they have done over many years to support the Society, and to Richard and Gitta Ashworth. This meeting marked the end of Richard’s time as Chairman and it was felt that to acknowledge his hard work and success in the role, an offer of Life Membership was appropriate. Sidney Syson has now taken over from Richard.

After the interval a presentation was given by Dominic Liptrot, leader of Lost Art, the company which will be restoring the bandstand in the Pump Room Gardens . He gave a detailed and fascinating explanation of the complex processes  which must be undertaken in such historic park and urban restoration  projects, with  illustrations taken not only from bandstands but also fountains, including a very grand fountain in Scotland. The goal of Lost Art is to “ provide for the future from the lessons of the past “. Residents of Leamington look forward to seeing this realised in the completed restoration of our bandstand.

The catering for the occasion was undertaken by Ruth Bennion, with support from Robin and Shirley Adams.
